Newer cars frequently come with adapters to attach an iPod to a car stereo, but you can still listen to your favorite playlists if your car does not have a stereo at all. Portable electronics can be used to attach your iPod to speakers, and play it in your car.
Instructions
1. Purchase an FM radio transmitter adapter for your iPod. This will broadcast the music from your iPod on a low-power frequency, which can be picked up by a radio in your car. For best results, use a transmitter with a 12-volt power adapter; you can use this to power the adapter off the car's "cigarette lighter" power jack instead of batteries.
2. Put a "boom box" radio stereo in your car. For the purposes of iPod playback, it can be an older model if you have one already. All you need is a functioning radio and decent speakers. Again, it is best if you can connect this to car power to avoid using batteries.
3. Set your transmitter to a radio frequency that is not used in your area, and tune the boom box to the same frequency. Adjust the volume on the boom box to approximately halfway.
4. Place your iPod within easy reach of the driver's or front passenger seat. When the iPod is playing, the sound will be transmitted to the radio. You can adjust the volume on the iPod itself to change the volume of the music. When the iPod is turned off, the radio should go silent, although you may hear a static hiss. Turn off the radio to get rid of the hiss, and to conserve battery life if it is not being run on car power.
