The Shockwave Player, a proprietary media player developed by Adobe, can play files with the extension .swf. Typically, media streamed over the Internet is encoded in this format. You can convert MP3 files, the most common audio file type, into SWF files so you can play them through the Shockwave Player. Although no freeware applications exist, you can convert an MP3 to SWF for free using a website that can convert different types of media. To perform this conversion, first convert the MP3 into a WMV file and then convert the WMV file into a SWF file.
Instructions
MP3-to-WMV Conversion
1. Open your Web browser and navigate to a website that will convert media files. One free website is Media-convert.com. (See Resources section below for a link to this site.)
2. Import the MP3 file you want to convert. Click the "Browse" button and select the file from your computer.
3. Select an output file format from the drop-down menu labeled "Output Format." Choose "Windows Media Video (.wmv)" from the list of options.
4. Click the "OK" button located to the right of the output format drop-down menu. This will start the conversion and display a progress meter on the screen.
5. Click the link that appears after your computer has converted the file. This will download the file to your computer.
WMV-to-SWF Conversion
6. Navigate to Media-convert.com again. Import the WMV file you want to convert by clicking the "Browse" button.
7. Choose an output format from the drop-down menu. This time, choose "Flash SWF (.swf)" from the list of options.
8. Click the "OK" button, and the file will begin converting.
9. Download the converted file from the link that appears after the file conversion has completed. You will now have an SWF file compatible with the Shockwave Player.
