Trobleshoot and fix A Dell Digital Jukebox

Troubleshoot a Dell Digital Jukebox

The Dell Digital Jukebox is a digital music player similar to the Apple iPod. Users can place their favorite music onto the Digital Jukebox and take it with them anywhere. The music player may not always operate as intended, with many of the problems occurring when powering on the device and connecting it to the computer. In addition, the Digital Jukebox has a Rescue mode that you can use to reset the device and return it to working order.

Instructions

Power On and Off Problems

1. Hold down the "Power" button for approximately three seconds to turn on the device. Pressing the "Power" button quickly will not turn on the device.

2. Move the locking switch to the "Unlock" position before trying to turn the Dell Digital Jukebox on or off. The device will not respond if the lock switch is in the "Lock" position.

3. Insert the end of a paper clip into the small hole on the left side of the device to press the "Reset" button. If the operating system is locked, you cannot turn off the Digital Jukebox.

Installation and Connection Problems

4. Disconnect the Dell Digital Jukebox from your computer, restart the computer and reinstall the software. When your computer does not recognize the Dell Digital Jukebox, you should reinstall the software with the device disconnected from the computer.

5. Connect the Digital Jukebox to the AC adapter when it is plugged into a computer. The device may have difficulty connecting to the computer if the battery does not have enough power.

6. Plug the USB cable directly into a USB jack on the computer, and not a USB hub, if the computer does not recognize the device.

Rescue Mode

7. Start Rescue mode by pressing the "Play" button while pressing the "Reset" button with the end of a paper clip. You can choose "Clean Up," which fixes fragmented files; "Format All," which deletes all of the files on your device and returns it to the factory presets; "Reload Firmware," which removes the current firmware so you can install new firmware; and "Reboot," which restarts the device.

8. Scroll to the option you want to use, press the "Select button" and choose "Yes" in the confirmation window. A status bar will appear on the screen, indicating the amount of time until the option you chose is completed.

9. Download the firmware update from the Dell Support website, if you chose the "Reload Firmware" option. Connect the device to your computer and double click on the firmware update. The computer will load the update onto your Digital Jukebox.
