Where Did the Aquamarine Stone Come From?
The gemstone aquamarine dates back to Greek and Roman times. Its name comes from the Latin "aqua" meaning water and "mare" meaning sea. It is, in essence, a stone of the sea.
Description
Aquamarine is a form of the mineral group beryl, which also includes emeralds. Its color ranges from pale blue to blue-green and teal.
History
The Greeks and Romans referred to the aquamarine as a sailor's gem which, when worn, ensured safe passage across the seas.
Sources
This beautiful blue gemstone comes mostly from Brazil, but it may also be found in parts of Africa, Russia and Madagascar. The largest aquamarine stone, weighing over 240 pounds, was found in Brazil in 1910.

Aquamarine is the birthstone for March.
Metaphysical Properties
This stone can increase intuition, alleviate sea or airsickness and increase communication. Putting an aquamarine stone in a fish tank or pond is said to keep fish healthy.
