Windows Media Player
In order to download songs to your MP4, you'll need a jukebox program or media player to store your songs. Popular media players include Music Match Jukebox and Windows Media Player. If you don't have WMPon your computer, you may get a free download at Microsoft.com. WMP gives you the ability to store movies, pictures and songs.
Preparing Your Music
Prepare the music that you plan to download to your MP4 player. You can accomplish this in one of two ways. You can either rip CDs to your Jukebox or Media Player, or you can download tracks from websites like rhapsody.com or ez-tracks.com.
To rip CDs to your media player, insert your CD into your computer's CD-Rom drive. Click the "rip" tab. Click the box to the right of the song to indicate if you want the song ripped to your library. Once you've selected all the songs you want ripped to your library, click "start rip."
Websites like ez-tracks.com allow you to download songs into your media player for free. You must create an account by providing your name and email address. From there, you'll be given access to the ez tracks database, where you'll be able to download songs from a variety of different genres.
Loading Songs
Once all of the songs you want on your MP4 are downloaded to your media player, you'll be able to sync your media player with your MP4 player. Syncing transfers songs from your media player to your MP4 player.
Connect your MP4 player to your computer's USB port. Drag the songs you want to download to your MP4 player from your WMP. Once you've picked all the songs you want to download to your MP4 player, click "start sync." After your songs have finished downloading to your MP4 player, you may want to save the list of song you downloaded as a sync list. This will allow you to download the same songs to other portable devices you may own.
