Update windows that appear in Avira AntiVir are useful reminders to upgrade the software. Yet, the nag screen can be a bothersome nuisance. You can get rid of the Avira nag screen on your Windows XP Home without installing extraneous third-party applications. Once you disable the nag messages, you should not see them again.
Instructions
1. Reboot your system. Press "F8" before the Windows logo screen appears. Scroll down to "Safe mode" and press "Enter." Log in to the administrator's account.
2. Double-click "My Computer" on the desktop. Navigate the following folder path:
C >> Program Files >> Avira >> AntiVir Personal Edition Classic >> avnotify.exe
3. Right-click "avnotify.exe" and click "Properties," "Security" and then "Advanced."
4. Select "System" under the Permissions tab.
5. Click "Edit" >> "Locate Traverse Folder/Execute File" >> "Deny" >> "OK" >> "Apply" >> "Yes" >> "OK" >> "OK."
6. Reboot your system into normal mode. The nag screen should no longer appear.
