Import Tunes As Ring tones On The Samsung Juke

The lightweight, ultra-thin Samsung Juke includes 2GB of internal memory to hold your favorite music, hence the name "Juke" as in "Jukebox." However, the Juke does not offer an integrated way to convert MP3 files into ringtones. But with a few tricks and third-party applications, you can convert any MP3 into a ringtone for your Juke.

Instructions

Download Software

1. Download the following files to your desktop: Samsung USB Driver, BitPim, Audacity and Lame MP3 Encoder (see Resources).

2. Double-click on the Samsung Drivers ZIP file and locate the "Setup" file. Double-click the "Setup" file to launch the installation.

3. Reset the computer if prompted once the installation is complete.

4. Double-click on the BitPim EXE file to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.

5. Double-click on the Audacity EXE file to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.

6. Double-Click on the Lame MP3 Encoder ZIP file and drag the "Lame_enc.dll" file into the "Plug-in" folder in the directory where the Audacity program was installed. In most cases, this is under the "C:\Program Files\Audacity" directory.

Make the Ringtone

7. Launch Audacity from the desktop shortcut or the "Start" menu.

8. Click "Project, "Import Audio" and select the MP3 or other sound file you wish to use for the ringtone.

9. Click on a portion of the audio track and drag the mouse left or right to highlight a portion of the song. The total time of the selected portion is displayed in the timeline above the audio track. Most ringtones are between 15 and 30 seconds.

10. Hold the "Shift" key and click the "Play" button to hear the selection looped for a preview of the ringtone. Press the "Spacebar" to stop playback.

11. Click "Edit," "Trim" to erase the unselected portion of the song.

12. Click "File," "Export as MP3," give the ringtone a name, select the desktop as the destination and click the "Save" button.

BitPim and Juke Settings

13. Press "Menu" on the Juke and choose "Settings and Tools." Press the "#" key and enter "000000" (without the quote marks).

14. Navigate to "MTP Settings" and choose "MSM." Press the "End" key and wait for the "Music Sync Not Allowed" message to appear.

15. Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable.

16. Launch BitPim from the desktop shortcut or the "Start" menu on the computer.

17.Click the "Settings" icon (the screwdriver and wrench) and change the phone type to "SCH-u470."

18. Click "Browse" next to "Com Port" and select "SAMSUNG CDMA Modem Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM)." Press "OK" to close the "Settings" window.

Transfer the Ringtone to the Phone

19. Click the icon with the green arrow pointing away from the phone and select any data you wish to back up from the phone to the computer and press "OK." You must select "Ringtone" for the rest of the operation to succeed.

20. Click the "+" next to "Media" in the left pane and click on "Ringers" once the information selected in the previous step is retrieved from the phone.

21. Click the icon with the music note and the green "+" from the menu bar and select the MP3 ringtone on the desktop.

22. Click the icon with the green arrow going into the phone and check "Ringtone" and the "Add" radio button followed by "OK" to upload the new ringtone.

23. Wait for the phone to automatically turn off and then unplug it from the USB cable.

24. Turn the phone on and press "Menu" on the Juke, then choose "Settings and Tools." Press the "#" key and enter "000000" as the code.

25. Navigate to "MTP Settings," choose "MTP" and press the "End" key. The phone will now function normally.
