The Microsoft Windows Media Player is a music and video program that comes loaded on every PC purchased within the United States. The program is designed to be an inclusive multimedia jukebox, which allows users to create playlists of their favorite songs, and store movies for later viewing. Many people don't realize that Windows Media Player comes equipped with the ability to play DVDs too; no additional programs or plug-ins are required for DVD playback.
Instructions
1. Open Windows Media Player. You are likely to find a link to launch the program on your desktop. If you don't, click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen and click on the Programs option. Then, scroll through the list until you locate Windows Media Player, and then double click on it.
2. Insert the DVD you want to view into your DVD drive. If you have purchased your computer within the last five to seven years, your disc drive should play DVDs. If your drive is slot-loading, just slide the DVD into the marked space on your desktop or laptop computer. If your drive is tray-loading, click the eject key, place your DVD on the tray, and press the eject key again to close the tray.
3. Begin DVD playback. With Windows Media Player running, the DVD should automatically launch and begin running. If it doesn't, click on the Library button at the top of the left toolbar. A menu will pop up revealing buttons for each type of media the program can play; click on the circular DVD icon to begin playing the DVD.
