Rip Shared Music With Itunes

Rip Shared Music with iTunes

Although iTunes's library sharing function has long been the delight of college students, library patrons and other users of vast, shared computer networks, its one drawback was that all shared music was gone as soon as its user closed iTunes. With its 9.0 update, however, iTunes introduced Home Sharing, which allows users on the same network to exchange music from their shared libraries.

Instructions

1. Open the iTunes program on both computers and select "iTunes (File on a PC) > Preferences." Select the "Sharing" icon and check the boxes marked "Look for shared libraries" and "Share my library on my local network." Click "OK" when you have done this.

2. Select "Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing" from the application menu. Do this for both computers.

3. Enter the respective iTunes account usernames and passwords for each computer in the "Home Sharing" box that appears. Click "Create Home Share" at the bottom right-hand corner of the box.

4. Click on the library name of the library you want to rip music from in the "Shared" column at the left of the application window on the first computer. Make a selection of songs or select all of the music by typing "Command + A" (Ctrl + A on a PC). Click "Import." The music from the shared library on the second computer will now be downloaded to the first computer's iTunes library.
