Education
Bar managers often have degrees in restaurant or hospitality management, but hands-on experience as a bartender can be stepping stone to obtaining a position as a bar manager.

A bar manager is the public "face" of an establishment, so he must be outgoing, friendly and able to deal with a wide variety of people while projecting a professional image.
Duties
Bar managers must effectively oversee the day-to-day operations of the bar, including employee scheduling, customer service, supplies, sanitation, payroll, marketing, the upkeep of equipment, accounting, and adherence to all local and state laws governing the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Salary Range
The Bureau of Labor Statistics places the salary range for bar managers at $27,400 to $70,810 as of October 2009. Factors such as experience and location determine what a bar manager's salary will be.

Bar managers do not have 9 to 5, five-day work weeks. Managing a bar or pub requires the ability to be available to your staff whenever the bar is open for business, including nights, weekends and holidays.
