Import the audio from a cassette tape to your computer.
With your portable laptop computer you can perform most of the same tasks you typically would on a desktop computer. This includes music management and creation. If you have a stack of old audio cassette tapes sitting around your home, you can upload the files to your laptop computer in an MP3 format. Doing so gives you the ability to burn the music onto a CD or upload the contents onto a portable music player.
Instructions
1. Plug one end of the 3.5mm cable into the headphone jack on your cassette player. You can find a 3.5mm male to male cable at most electronic stores in the audio department.
2. Connect the other end of the 3.5mm cable into the "Line-In" port on the side of the laptop computer. This is where you normally connect microphones to the system.
3. Click the "Start" button, followed by "All Programs," "Accessories," "Entertainment" and finally "Audio Recorder." A small audio recording program now loads onto the desktop.
4. Click the audio-in options and choose "Line-In" as the recording option. This tells the laptop computer to record content from the cassette player.
5. Insert the tape into the cassette player. Click "Record" on the program window and press "Play" on the cassette player. The computer begins to to record the audio content. Click "Stop" in the audio recorder to stop the recording process.
6. Select "File," then "Save." Title the recorded file and choose a location to save the information from the save window. Click on the format pull-down menu and select "MP3" from the list of audio formats. Click "OK," and the new MP3 audio file is created.
