Working on your PDA
The Dell Axim X3 model PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) was released by Dell, a company known for manufacturing personal computers, to compete with more popular PDAs such as the Palm Pilot. Even though no new X3 models are being manufactured, many people have kept these models and still use them in their day-to-day routines. If you happen to be one of the people still using their Dell Axim X3 and the screen has gone dark, chances are the backup battery has died. Even though the X3 has been discontinued, you can still find parts and fix it yourself. Here's replace the internal battery.
Instructions
1. Turn off your Dell Axim X3 and turn it over so the back is facing you. Insert the tip of your Phillips screwdriver underneath the rubber screw covers on each of the four corners of the Axim. Pop off the rubber screw covers.
2. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove each screw on all four corners of the back of the Dell Axim.
3. Insert the tip of your plastic pry tool in the seam between the back metal panel and front housing of the Dell Axim. Work your way around the sides of the Axim, popping each tab in the seam until the two halves separate. Set the back plate aside.
4. Locate the circular backup battery in the bottom-left corner of the Dell Axim. Remove the thin plastic battery cover and lift the battery out of its compartment. Unplug the battery cable from the main board and remove the battery completely
5. Insert the new battery (available from your Dell retailer or online) and plug the battery cable into the main board. Replace the screws and the two halves of the Axim. Replace the four screws on the back panel and turn on your Dell Axim. The new battery should work perfectly.
