WMV files are Windows-based video files built to play in Windows media players and editors. If you have a WMV file on your system, but you only want to use the audio portion of the file, it is possible to convert the Windows video file into a Windows audio file. Popular file conversion softwares, such as OJOSoft, make the entire file conversion from WMV to WMA a simple process with just a few clicks.
Instructions
1. Download the OJOSoft Conversion software. A trial version of the software can be downloaded for free. The trial version will convert only the first first of each file. The full version can be downloaded for a fee. If you would prefer a free software, download Free Video to Audio Converter. Completely free softwares generally have some sound quality issues, and Free Video to Audio Converter is no exception, but it works fine if you aren't really concerned with the quality of your sound.
2. Choose the file you want to convert. In OJOSOFT, click the "Browse" button and find the WMV file on your system. In Free Video to Audio Converter, click "Add Task" and choose the WMV file.
3. Type a file name in the OJOSoft "Output File Name" box. Your WMA file will be saved under this name. In Free Video to Audio Converter, your file will automatically save under the original name. Only the file extension will change.
4. Pick the WMA output format. All of the available file types in OJOSoft will be listed across the top of the window. In Free Video to Audio Converter, the file types are listed on the left side of the "Output Options" screen that comes up when you pull in your original file for conversion. WMA is the second file type listed. Once you choose WMA in Free Video to Audio Converter, click "OK."
5. Convert the file. In OJOSoft, the "Convert" button is clearly marked in the bottom corner. In Free Video to Audio Converter, the button is labeled as "Start" and appears at the top of the screen. Both programs track the progress on the screen. Once the file is converted, you will be able to find it in the output folder you selected.
