The Dell Pocket DJ is a 5GB personal music player manufactured by Dell that is similar to the iPod Nano. Sometimes a Dell Pocket DJ may freeze, have fragmented files or become unresponsive. Activating Rescue Mode, cleaning it, formatting it and reloading firmware may fix a Dell Pocket DJ when it starts having problems.
Instructions
1. Activate Rescue Mode on the Dell Pocket DJ. Insert a long, thin object, such as a straightened paper clip, into the reset hole while pressing and holding down the "Play" button. Keep holding down the "Play" button until the Dell Pocket DJ turns on. The Dell Pocket DJ is now in Rescue Mode.
2. Clean up the Dell Pocket DJ. The "Clean Up" option searches and fixes lost clusters and fragmented files. While in Rescue Mode, scroll and select "Clean Up." Select "Yes" and the progress screen will be displayed. Clean up can take a few minutes depending on the number music files on the Pocket DJ.
3. Format the Dell Pocket DJ. Formatting the Pocket DJ will erase all files, music tracks and playlists. Scroll and select "Format All" while in Rescue Mode. Scroll and select "Yes" and the Pocket DJ will format itself.
4. Reload firmware on the Dell Pocket DJ. Reloading firmware upgrades the Pocket DJ's firmware and corrects firmware problems. Download updated firmware from the Dell website. Select "Reload Firmware," then select "Yes." Connect the Pocket DJ to your computer with the USB cable. Turn on the Pocket DJ, then double-click the downloaded firmware file on your computer. If prompted, restart your computer.
5. Reboot your Dell Pocket DJ. While in Rescue Mode, select "Reboot" or press and hold down the power button. Your player will restart automatically.
