Decorate around your pool table to create an inviting room where your friends and family will want to play.
Purchasing a pool table and setting it up does not automatically constitute a game room worth hanging out in. Decorate the room around your pool table to create an ambiance that you want to linger in. For example, create an upscale gentleman's club where men can mingle, smoke cigars, drink champagne and enjoy a good game of billiards. Create a vintage arcade feel if that's more your style. Or decorate your billiards room to resemble your favorite sports pub and ensure your buddies will enjoy hanging out at your place instead of the local pub.
Instructions
1. Paint the walls in a rich tone, such as deep beige, hunter green or burgundy for a pub or elegant look. Teal, yellow or aqua paint works for a retro look or if you prefer a light and airy feel.
Another option is to paint the walls the same color as the felt on your pool table for a seamless look.
2. Install a long billiards light above the table to bathe the table in light while maintaining a low-light look for the rest of the room to create a pub or club feel. There are numerous different designs available ranging from neon beer lights to stained glass elegant lights.
Implement a dimmer on the light if at all possible.
3. Put in a wood, tile or concrete floor if possible. Non-carpeted rooms work best because the carpet won't be ruined if your guests spill their soda, beer, chips, nuts or any other snacks that typically find their way into a billiards room. Non-carpeted floors are also easier to clean without leaving any stains. Small--and inexpensive--area rugs can easily be cleaned or replaced.
4. Place furniture around the room, as long as the pieces don't get in the way of playing. Tall bar stools, pub tables or a wet bar are some options. The wood should match the legs of the pool table. Set old car or truck seats, especially those made of vinyl from older cars, around the room for a vintage look.
5. Hang wall decor that carries out your theme. For example, an upscale or formal looking billiards room might include the common pictures of dogs playing pool or the infamous pool table scene in "Oceans 11" featuring "The Rat Pack."
A rack should be hung on one wall to hold pool sticks, cue chalk and other necessary items for the game.
Neon beer signs and a dart board can help create a casual pub-style billiards room.
6. Accessorize the room with large apothecary jars filled with hard candies, bowls or urns filled with beer nuts or pretzels, or even humidors and ash trays. Display your shot glass or beer mug collection on floating shelves.
A jukebox, stereo and TV can also fill space in the room and function to help keep your guests entertained.
