Build Network Storage Within An Old Computer

Older computers are never entirely useless. Even if your older computer can no longer handle modern applications at the desired speed, you can still utilize it for network storage for the rest of the computers in your household. This can be accomplished by turning the main drive on the computer into a shared network drive, enabling all of the other computers to store files and access documents from the drive on your "useless" computer.

Instructions

1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the network port on the back of the computer.

2. Connect the other end to an available port on your router.

3. Open "Start" on the old computer, select "Control Panel," click "Network," and select the "Network Setup Wizard."

4. Check the option to enable file sharing.

5. Right click "Start" and select "Explore." Right click on the "C" drive, select "Share," and check the box to "Share this drive on the network."

6. Restart all network computers.
