Convert Mp3 Audio books For Ipod device Inside A Mac

In order to be compatible with an iPod's audiobook features, audiobooks must be in M4B format. Many audiobook downloads found online, however, are in the more standard MP3 format. If you have an MP3 audiobook that you would like to use on an iPod, you must first convert it to M4B. While there is one program made specifically to handle this conversion, it is available for Windows only. If you want to convert to M4B on a Mac, you must use iTunes, which works on both Windows and Mac systems.

Instructions

1. Download iTunes to your computer if it is not already installed. ITunes is free and available for download at the Apple website.

2. Install iTunes to your computer. When you click on the program icon, the iTunes setup will launch. Installation screens will walk you through the process of installing the program on your system.

3. Drag the MP3 audiobook file into the iTunes library. It will appear in the library as a music file instead of an audiobook.

4. Right-click the title of the audiobook in the playlist and choose "Create AAC Version" from the menu that appears. ITunes will convert the MP3 audiobook file into an AAC audiobook file, giving it an M4A extension. The progress of the audiobook conversion will be monitored in the top center of the iTunes display.

5. Go to the folder where the AAC audiobook with the M4A extension is saved. Right-click on the file name and select "Rename" from the menu. When the name of the file highlights, click in the text and change the file extension from "m4a" to "m4b." This does not change the file type and the file will continue to play correctly.

6. Return to iTunes and go to the "File" menu. Choose the "Add File to Library" option and locate the file on your computer's hard drive. Highlight the name of the M4B file and click "Open" to add it to the iTunes library. The next time you sync your iPod with your computer, the M4B file will be added to the device.
