Have party guests dress as if they lived in the 1950s and 1960s.
Hosting a theme party gives your guests an opportunity to show their creativity and style. They can put away their work or school attire and assume another persona for one night. The sights, sounds and smells you create for your party all have a bearing on how successful the event will be. Setting up the proper decorations, with appropriate music playing in the background and the food straight from a 1950s restaurant including malts, shakes hamburgers and French fries, will transform your living room or party space into a soda shop.
Instructions
1. Arrange for someone to serve as your "soda jerk." Set up a bar or countertop area where that person can serve authentic sodas and specialty drinks (with adult beverages for an older crowd). Have her dress the part by wearing a white uniform and a white paper hat.
2. Rent a jukebox for a large party or arrange to have popular 1950s and early 1960s music played at the party.
3. Decorate with 1950s and early 1960s theme props, such as cutouts of icons of the era such as Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Marilyn Monroe). Put movie posters (such as "Rebel without a Cause" and "The Blackboard Jungle"), TV show posters (like "I Love Lucy" and "Bonanza") and car posters on the walls.
4. Set up tables and chairs in a manner that resembles an old-time soda shop or diner. Put some bar stools over by the counter where sodas are being served.
5. Encourage guests to dress in clothes from the era. Have your female guests dress in poodle skirts, satin jackets, sweaters and saddle shoes. Have your male guests dress in leather jackets, white T-shirts, dungarees and high-top shoes.
6. Make appetizers to serve at your theme party such as hamburger sliders, mini chili dogs, and French fries.
