Decorate your venue for a 1950s sock hop.
The right decorations can transform an everyday '50s-themed sock hop into a real blast. From the jukebox in the corner to the balloon drop overhead, a number of items can add authenticity to the party. Carefully plan your decorations ahead of time to be sure that you have everything you need--you can't just run out and get some of the items.
Instructions
1. Add designs to the walls. You can purchase packages of 1950s-themed paper cutouts, such as record shapes, guitars, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. Another idea is to simply place old 45 records on the wall--buy them at your local thrift store. If you want to really transform your space, purchase temporary wall coverings that will make the room look like a 1950s soda shop.
2. Put a jukebox in the corner. The jukebox is a classic image from the 1950s. You can sometimes rent a jukebox from a party supply store. Even if you aren't going to use it for music, it's still a good idea to have one. If you don't want to get a real one, you can purchase a paper jukebox that you can hang on the wall.
3. Create a balloon arch entryway. Have guests walk through the arch as they enter. Make the arch with PVC piping on the sides and an aluminum frame on the top. Fill the balloons with helium and attach them to the frame with wire.
4. Decorate tables with 1950s flair. Use red and white checkered tablecloths. Let black-and-white pictures of famous stars from the '50s serve as centerpieces. Sprinkle the tables with 1950s-themed confetti that includes guitars and records.
5. Purchase a balloon drop for the end of the party. This is a netting that attached to the ceiling. Fill it with balloons, and at the end of your sock hop, release the balloons.
