Focus At Darts

Staying focused is an essential skill in darts.

Staying focused at darts is essential to consistent performance and accurate throws. Many times darts are played in a crowded, noisy or smoky environment. Even if you are a great darts player, your game can quickly go downhill if you fall victim to distractions like drinks, rowdy pub patrons or music. With some dedication and hard work, there are easy ways to focus at darts and keep your game solid.

Instructions

1. Avoid distractions where you are playing. Pay close attention to the board, even when someone else is throwing. Don't watch television, buy a drink or play songs on the jukebox. Simply wait your turn and think about the points or hits you need to win.

2. Stand correctly before you throw your darts. Place your dominant foot against the throwing line, and keep your other foot slightly behind it. Don't move your feet or your hips when you throw. Paying close attention to your stance grounds you, and gives you something to focus on while you play.

3. Keep your eyes on the dartboard before you throw. Don't look around at anybody or anything. Practice your throw, and then release the dart while keeping your eyes on your intended target.

4. Pay attention to your elbow when you throw your darts. Keep your elbow up before and after you release the dart. Keep this in your mind as you practice; it will help keep your head in the game and your mind focused.

5. Ignore trash talk or unrelated conversations before, during and after shooting darts. If you let your opponent get inside your head, you can lose focus.
