Kitchen Decoration Ideas

Retro Kitchen Appliances

If your kitchen is boring and in need of a facelift, start working on a kitchen theme that will bring your kitchen back to life. Kitchens are one of the simplest rooms in the house to decorate. There is an almost endless list of ideas you could take advantage of to give your kitchen a personality that you'll enjoy being a part of.

Paris Bistro

Bistros are small restaurants that serve simple, slow-cooked foods. They are usually set up in cozy buildings with comfortable lighting and cramped dining spaces. A bistro theme for your kitchen might include a couple of little dining tables for two rather than one large dining table. Hang some old-time menus on the wall for added authenticity. Use dark brown paint and stain for the overall color, to give your kitchen the cozy feel of a bistro. Signs in French add a nice touch of authenticity. You can add a couple of wine racks and stock it with bottles of wine, either full or empty, to enhance the bistro atmosphere as well.

'50s Soda and Hamburger Shoppe

A 1950s soda shoppe theme evokes simpler times. Use stools instead of dining room chairs. If you have an island in your kitchen, place the stools around the island. An old jukebox in one corner goes a long way toward recreating the feel of a 1950s hamburger establishment. Hang a few music notes on the wall, along with antique pictures of hot dogs, hamburgers, and soda floats. Paint your walls in pastels and add '50s-replica kitchen appliances for a vintange look. Most of the major department stores sell retro appliances. You can also get good deals on these items at online auction sites like eBay or Amazon.

Coffee Shop

Turn your kitchen into a relaxing artsy coffeehouse. There are so many coffee-themed decorations available these days that you won't have any trouble finding the right look. Use a combination of dark brown paint accented with lighter shades of brown. Put a few neon lights on the wall to accent the warm colors on your wall. The juxtaposition of quaint and modern elements is eye catching. Use colored appliances, like a coffee or espresso machine in red or blue, and replace your dining table with a couple of high tables for two and stools instead of chairs. You can find dish towels, rugs, clocks, and other wall decor to match the coffee theme at just about any store. Set a couple of pastry display cases on your counters with plastic pastries in them. A rack with a coffee cup collection is another great addition to this type of kitchen.

Hometown Americana

An old fashioned kitchen that takes us back to the days before computers and cell phones is fun to do. There are replica product packaging decorations available you can set up in your window sills and along your counters. Old coffee cans, flour and other kitchen products from days gone by make great decorating items. Place a basket on your counter filled with fake country-brown eggs. Do your walls in white with bright blue or yellow accents and add a country-themed wall border to set it all off.
