Make an Indie Mix CD
Mixing an Indie music CD isn't as easy as it sounds. However, there are several research and technical steps that can assist in making a first-rate mixed CD, worthy of even the most die-hard Indie music fan.
Instructions
1. Do your homework on what is both new and popular as well as old and obscure. A good Indie CD will have a mix of both old and new favorites, but the signature of a good CD to most Indie fans is if it has a song on it they like (see link in Resources).
2. Compile your playlist. If you have jukebox or CD mixing software, this can be done with a computer. If you are using a stereo with CD burner, this will need to be done with pen and paper.
3. Make the CD. The best option for doing this is with a media creation platform like Roxio Media Creator, which will allow you to mix the songs together like a radio pro. However, any jukebox software, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player, will have a CD burner built in and will do almost as well. Making the CD on the stereo will require several times more manual labor.
4. Make the cover and playlist for the jewel case. If the CD is more than just a mere dump of music data, it should be decorated with a little art. CD stomping software always comes with design kits for both CD labels and jewel case inserts, and these are easy to use. However, making inserts by hand adds a unique touch. Good suggestions for homemade inserts are to cut greeting cards or postcards to fit, or to make a collage.
