Make Use Of The Wise Tech Podium With Vmware

VMware develops a line of virtual machine programs, which run operating systems inside other operating systems. For example, a user running Mac OS X or Linux on his computer can run Windows in a virtual machine and use Windows-only software programs in the virtual machine. VMware supports USB devices in virtual machines, so virtual machines can use devices connected to the physical computer as if they were connected directly. VMware can use the SMART Tech Podium, a device that communicates over USB, in virtual machines as long as they have the SMART Notebook driver software installed.

Instructions

1. Right-click the virtual machine you want to use in the VMware window and click "Virtual Machine Settings."

2. Verify the "USB Controller" device is present in the list of virtual hardware devices. If it isn't, click "Add," click "USB Controller" in the list, click "Next" and click "Finish."

3. Click "OK" in the Virtual Machine Settings window.

4. Plug the SMART Tech Podium into a power outlet using the included power cable.

5. Connect the SMART Tech Podium to the computer running VMware with the included USB cable.

6. Power on the SMART Tech Podium by pressing its power button.

7. Click the "Virtual Machine" menu at the top of the VMware window, click "Removable Devices" in the list, click the "SMART Tech Podium" device in the list and click "Connect."

8. Open a Web browser in the VMware virtual machine, download the SMART Notebook software for your guest operating system from SMART Tech's website (see Resources) and install it by double-clicking the downloaded installer inside the VMware virtual machine and following the instructions on your screen.

9. Enable full-screen mode for the VMware virtual machine by clicking the "Maximize" window button in the top-right corner of the VMware window. Press "Ctrl" and "Alt" at the same time if you want to exit full-screen mode.

10. Connect the included video cable to the "Analog RGB In" port on the SMART Tech Podium and the monitor port on the back of the computer running VMware.

11. Use the SMART tech podium in its normal way.
