Now that you've decided to transfer all those old 45-RPM (revolutions per minute) records onto compact discs, you'll want to learn about a couple of intermediate steps that you must take to get the analog sound on that old hot wax into the digital domain of CDs. All you need to do is round up the basic equipment, some of which you probably own already, and follow a few easy steps.
Instructions
1. Connect the RCA audio cables from your turntable to the Input jacks on the analog-digital converter box.
2. Connect the USB cable from the converter box to a free USB port on your computer.
3. Turn on the equipment and wait for the New Hardware Detected message to appear on your monitor.
4. Open the software application for the analog-digital converter on your computer by double-clicking on the New Hardware message.
5. Play a 45-RPM record on the turntable, which will send the analog signal through the converter box, create a digital copy and transfer it to your computer where you can create an audio file to save the recording.
6. Transfer all the digital copies of 45 records that you wish to make onto your computer.
7. Place a blank, recordable compact disc in your computer's CD/DVD tray and close the tray.
8. Launch the media player you normally use for burning CDs on your computer.
9. Open the folder containing the digital files of your 45s, and transfer the songs you wish to record into the computer's media player. Most players let you do this with a simple "drag and drop." Place your mouse pointer over the song file you wish to record, click the left mouse button and hold it while you drag the folder to the media player's burn list.
10. Click "Burn CD" when you have transferred all songs you wish to record on the CD.
