Problems Streaming Music With An Xbox 360 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 videogame console, when connected to a network, will allow you to stream your entire music library from your computer straight to your Xbox 360 and your home theater system. This will allow you to not only listen to music as you might on a jukebox, but will also even allow you to replace an in-game soundtrack with your own custom music list. When experiencing difficulties streaming music, there are a number of possible culprits for the issue, so the problem must be addressed systematically.

Restarting Devices

When you are experiencing computer issues, restarting your devices can get everything working. Due to updates not being completely applied or many other possible problems, simply turning your devices off and on may resolve your issues. Turn both your computer and Xbox 360 off, wait about 30 seconds, then turn them back on.

Network Connection

First, ensure that your Ethernet cable or Wi-fi adapter is securely connected to your Xbox 360. Now navigate to "My Xbox" on your Xbox 360 and select "System Settings," "Network Settings," then "Network" or "Wireless Network" depending on your connection type, and select "Configure Network." Run all three tests available and address any issues that discovered by the tests.

Music Library

On your computer, ensure that streaming has been enabled in Windows Media Player and that your music has been added to your library. First, start Windows Media Player and select "Switch to Library" if it isn't already in the library mode. Click "Organize," "Manage Libraries" then "Music." In the "Music Library Locations" window click "Add" and select the folder or folders that contain your music.

Xbox System Updates

Connect to Xbox Live and ensure that there are no system updates to apply. If there are updates to be applied, you will be notified automatically upon sign-in. Also, ensure that you have the "Optional Media Update." To do this, go to the "Game Marketplace" on your Xbox 360, select "All Games" and scroll down to the "O" section. Select the "Optional Media Update" and select "Confirm Download" and select "Continue" once the download is complete.
