Remove Duplicate Itunes Home windows

Duplicate songs in your iTunes library do not make the music sound twice as good.

Developed by Apple, iTunes turns your computer into a jukebox and a movie theater. You get media into iTunes by importing it. When you add new media to iTunes, the software does not care if a duplicate file exists. It simply adds the file to the library. Over time, your iTunes library and your iPod or iPhone may wind up cluttered with duplicate items. Remove duplicates to remove the clutter.

Instructions

1. Open iTunes.

2. Hold down the "Shift" key and select "File" if you want to remove duplicates that have the same name, album and artist. Otherwise, click "File" without holding down the "Shift" key to display duplicates that have the same artist and name. A menu will open and display a list of options.

3. Select "Display Duplicates" or "Display Exact Duplicates." iTunes will display your duplicate items in a table with column headings.

4. Click the "Date Added" column to sort the items by date. The newest items will appear at the top of the list.

5. Hold down the "Ctrl" key and click items in the list that you want to remove. iTunes will highlight the selected items. To highlight a group of items quickly, hold down the "Shift" key and click the first and last items that you want to remove. iTunes will highlight all items between your choices.

6. Click "Edit" and then "Delete."
