Importing audio and combining CD tracks in iTunes is an easy and customizable process. For example, you can import CDs and other audio to your library in several different formats and quality settings. The default iTunes import format is called AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), which provides high-quality audio with a smaller file size; however, you can import music in MP3, WAV (CD quality), AIFF and Apple Lossless formats by setting your import preferences accordingly. You can also use the "Join CD Tracks" function to combine all your CDs tracks as one large file in any one of the formats listed above, which is useful when importing compilation CDs and audiobooks.
