If the guest of honor is a rocker at heart, surprise her with a rock 'n' roll shower theme. From the invitations to the parting gifts, infuse rock-inspired ideas into the traditional shower details. When you mix the girly frills with rock-star thrills, everyone enjoys a chance to party like a rock star.
Invitations
Set the tone for the theme of the party with the invitations. Cut card stock into the shape of a CD. Use a real CD as a template. Punch a hole in the center and write a message in the place you would find the album's title. For a baby shower, write something like, "Born to Rock." A cool title for a bridal shower might be, "Bride Rock Cafe." Print the shower details, such as time, date and location, on the face of the CD, where the song titles are listed, or write the information on a paper CD case before inserting the invitation.
Decorations
Make card-stock cutouts in the shapes of CDs, guitars and music notes. Hang them from the ceiling with ribbon. With rubber stamps, add musical images to traditional decorations of baby bottles or wedding bells. Give a rock 'n' roll edge to the baby clothesline hung at showers. Hang baby-sized concert shirts, onesies imprinted with rock images and a child-sized leather jacket. For a bridal shower, hang a garland-style decoration made of wedding bells and guitar-shaped cutouts.
Diaper or Towel Cake
Create a rock 'n' roll version of a diaper cake for a baby shower. Use towels in place of diapers for a bridal shower. Glue a toilet-paper tube, upright, onto the center of a record album. Roll the diapers, tie them with ribbon and arrange them around the tube, in as many rows as needed to cover almost the entire base of the album. Top this layer of diapers with a second album and toilet-paper tube. Repeat the process to create a second layer of diapers, adding one less row than the first layer. Create a third tier that is slightly smaller than the one on which it stands. Insert an inflatable microphone into the tube on the top layer of the cake. Tie musical note charms to the ends of the ribbons on the diapers or towels.
Jukebox Wishing Well
In place of a traditional wishing well, have guests drop their gifts into a replica of a jukebox. A large appliance box, such as a washing machine or oven box, works well for this piece. Make sure the bottom of the box is securely closed. Remove the flaps from the top of the box. Cut the flaps so the edges are curved like the top of a jukebox. Tape the flaps, curved side up, to the top ends of the box. Paint and decorate the box to look like a jukebox. Stand a hamper inside to catch the gifts that are dropped inside.
Games and Activities
Instead of Bridal Bingo, play the Backstage Pass game. Print and cut out card-stock "concert tickets" with the names of common shower gifts on them. Have each guest pick a ticket out of a hat. When the guest of honor opens a gift that matches an item printed on a ticket, the ticket holder wins a "backstage pass" to the prize table. Rent a karaoke machine and bring in some rock-star wardrobe accessories so guests may take turns performing for the crowd.
Favors
Have guests create their own rock-star T-shirts with fabric markers, stencil kits and plain, white T-shirts. Other suggestions for favors include guitar-shaped lollipops and CDs that contain wedding songs or lullabies.
