Insert commercially produced discs rather than discs that you've burned yourself.
Sony's 300-disc CD changer can be hooked up to an amplifier, and some of the changers can be connected to another CD player, too. Problems with the Sony 300-CD changer can include the audio skipping when playing or discs not playing at all. Error messages can be displayed relating to these disc errors, and they can be used to help identify the nature of the problem. Problems can be corrected by following some steps.
Instructions
1. Wipe each CD with a soft cloth if the discs skip. Dust and dirt can affect performance and dust can accumulate even if the discs have been stored in the changer for some time. Carefully wipe the CD and inspect it for damage. Visible scratches on the underside can cause skips. Any discs that have visible scratches, and continue to skip after cleaning should be replaced.
2. Check the display for any error messages if the discs won't play at all. Error messages can include "NO DISC," "DISC ERROR" or "INSERT DISC." Some of the 300-disc changers have a "Hold" switch. Be sure to move the switch to the "Off" position and try the audio again. Press the "Play" button once only after inserting a disc. If you press it twice, the disc may pause.
3. Insert commercially produced discs rather than CD-R or CD-RW discs that you've burned yourself. Sony doesn't support non-commercial discs in their 300-disc players. Look for designations in the player documentation that may tell you what discs the changer will play. CD players won't play discs designated "DVD," for example. Try different types of discs until you find ones that work. Some Sony players won't play extended-length discs -- discs with a play time of over 74 minutes.
