50th Birthday Celebration Invitation Ideas

Fifty is just the beginning.

Haven't you heard? Fifty is the new 40. People are living longer, and turning 50 can be seen as the halfway mark, or the beginning of a whole new era of your life. Mark 50 years of living by hosting a birthday bash your friends and family will never forget. Set the tone for the celebration before the party with irresistible, personalized invitations.

You, Only Younger

Everyone will love seeing images of you when you were a child. Choose a cute photo of yourself---naked baby pictures are always a hit---and make copies at a photo store or print them yourself on colored or brightly colored scrapbooking paper, available at craft stores. Fold the paper in half, and print your invitation in child-like writing or font for humor. Or, print the image on white paper, and color in with crayons or a painting program on your computer.

Celebrate the 1950s

Party invitations with a 1950s theme will set the stage for a swinging sock hop party. You can custom-order invitations with a retro look, or make your own. Choose an image of a pink Cadillac, poodle skirt, Elvis or a jukebox, or purchase a set of retro rubber stamps or stickers and apply them to pink paper. Download the American Dreams font at Fontsy.com for standout invitations in true '50s style.

Photoshop Templates

Visit an online Photoshop template store such as InkObsessionDesigns.com, which specializes in elegant, unforgettable party invitations. You choose the font, colors and text for your one-of-a-kind 50th birthday invites. These inexpensive templates have a boutique look, and in some cases, can be printed from your own printer. Others will require 24 to 48 hours before you can see a proof and make any last-minute changes. It typically takes three to five days for production, so plan ahead. Also, a few styles require Photoshop skills. In 2009, most templates are priced at $2.50 for personal use.

Email Invites

Invitations don't have to be made of paper. Smilebox.com and Evite.com offer musical or animated invites that will delight your guests and reflect your sense of humor and style. Choose from a collection of free email invitations, or design your own, and send them by email, print them out or post them to your blog. Premium membership may be required to access all features. Some sites also have party-planning tips and can help you manage RSVPs. You can even upload a personal photo or image, to create the perfect background for your 50th birthday party.
