60yearold Grandmother Birthday Celebration Ideas

Grandma's 60th is an important day.

Your grandma only turns 60 once. Throwing a birthday party for her can be a great way to show how much you appreciate every year that she has been a part of your life. Not every grandma has the same interests or tastes, so consider your grandma's personality when deciding on a 60th birthday theme for her party.

Kids Themed Party

A kid's themed party may seem inappropriate for a 60-year-old woman, but actually it can be a quirky approach that your grandma will enjoy, especially when the party includes grandchildren. It also says you realize that she is still young at heart. Whether you spend the day playing kids putt-putt golf or enjoying a warm spring afternoon having a birthday picnic at the park, your grandma will have a special 60th birthday spending time with her grandchildren.

Decade Themed Party

Another idea for throwing a birthday party for a grandma is to choose the decade that she was born or turned 16 or 21 years old, either of which are considered milestone birthdays. Consider what cultural influences were at work at the time your grandma had her milestone birthday and try to create a party that includes some of these elements. For instance, if your grandma turned 16 in 1968, have party goers dress in 1960s clothing like jeans and tie-dyed t-shirts. If she was born in the 1950s, decorate the venue where you will be holding the birthday party to resemble a 1950s-style diner. Add a jukebox with the hits of the decade on it. Put up posters of films that came out in the 1950s. Finally, serve dinner style food along with a cake that reflects your theme.

60 Things Theme

Create a list of 60 things you know your grandma loves and include each thing in your birthday celebration. The 60 things you choose should come from a variety of categories such as favorite foods, music, movies, books or clothing styles. For instance, select several of your grandma's favorite songs to be played at the party, choose some of her favorite foods and drinks to be served. You may also want to create a "This Is Your Life Style" scrapbook or album for presentation to your grandma. A scrapbook or album that celebrates your grandma's 60th birthday could contain remembrances from children, grandchildren, extended family and friends recalling amusing stories or special moments they shared with your grandma.

Posh 60th Birthday Party

Having a posh birthday dinner for your grandmother might be the right approach if your grandma is a very dignified person. It will demonstrate to her how important she is to you. Rent a private dining room to host a birthday dinner, or select another venue to host a your party like a ballroom or nice private home. Many restaurants offer private dining rooms for such events. Remember to rent the space with enough time before the party to place decorations and birthday gifts in the room.
