Change A Port 21 From Telnet To Ftp

Some Internet Service Providers block Port 21 entirely.

Telnet and FTP are two types of Internet Protocols that control how data is transferred online (HTTP is the protocol most familiar to the average user). For Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Port 21 is usually the default port for FTP connections. If the port is in use by telnet though, this could cause problems connecting it to FTP. Changing Port 21 to FTP is relatively simple.

Instructions

1. Click "Search" from the "Start" menu and select the "Run" command. Windows XP users can click "Run" from the "Start" menu directly.

2. Type in "cmd" and hit "Enter." This will open up an old-fashioned MS-DOS window.

3. Type "telnet my-domain-name.com 21" into the MS-DOS window. Hit "Enter."

4. If the change was successful, you will see a message similar to the following. If you do not see this message, contact your ISP.

220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------

220-You are user number 2 of 50 allowed.

220-This is a private system - No anonymous login

220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.

220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.

5. Restart your computer.
