XSPF is short for XML Shareable Playlist Format. XSPF playlists can be opened by VideoLAN VLC on Linux, Windows and Mac. You can listen to and share these playlists online. XSPF is open source, meaning it is free to use, and is sponsored by the Xiph.org Foundation. A common use for XSPF files is to share playlists, such as playlists on MySpace homepages. The easiest way to convert MP3 files into an XSPF playlist is to download a player and post it either on your own personal website or a customizable website such as MySpace.
Instructions
1. Download an XSPF player. SourceForge and TRBailey both offer free XSPF player downloads (see Resources).
2. Upload this player and the music files in your playlist onto your server if you are running your own website. Different web hosts will have different instructions on upload files onto your website. Many require File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which you can use to upload files through a browser or through a free FTP client such as FileZilla (Windows), Fetch (Mac) or gFTP (Linux). See the Resources section for more information on this.
3. Upload your music through a free server if you do not have a website. Some free servers that allow you to upload music are Last.fm, Jukebox Alive and Muziboo (see Resources).

The purpose of uploading these files is to have the URLs for the source code.
4. Open an application such as Notepad and copy and paste the following code:

5. Fill in the correct song names and URLs for the code. If you would like more tracks, copy and paste the following code above the in the code you already have:

6. Fill in the correct song names and URLs for the code. The only limit to the amount of songs you can have is your Internet bandwidth. Save the Notepad as ".xspf." Upload it to your server if you have your own website.
7. Paste the completed code wherever you want your player to appear on your page.
