Convert Quicktime Videos To Ipod device Format

Convert your QuickTime videos to an iPod format.

Although the QuickTime application and iPod devices are both Apple products, videos that are encoded with QuickTime may not have the proper formatting size for playback on your iPod. To format your QuickTime videos to fit the screen of your iPod, you must convert the video in the iTunes program. ITunes versions 8 and newer contain formatting tools that let you convert most video file extensions to the MPEG-4 (MP4) format used on the Apple iPod and iPhone.

Instructions

1. Click the iTunes icon on your Macintosh's dock, or click the "Start" menu button on your PC's desktop, and click "All Programs" and "iTunes."

2. Drag the QuickTime video you wish to convert to the iTunes source list to add it to your library, or click "File" at the top of the iTunes menu and select "Add to Library" and double-click the QuickTime video in the "Add to Library" window to select it. The source list is the sidebar of the iTunes program located on the left in the program window.

3. Choose the "Movies" tab underneath the "Library" section in the source list of iTunes, and single-click the file in the "Movies" section to select it. Click "Advanced" at the top of the iTunes window and choose "Create iPod or iPhone Version" from the "Advanced" sub-menu. The iTunes program will display the conversion status at the top of the program window and will make a noise to indicate the conversion process is complete.

4. Press the "Delete" or "Backspace" key on your keyboard, or right-click the original QuickTime video and select "Delete" from the shortcut menu. Once the video is converted, it remains in your iTunes library in two different formats, which takes up space on your hard drive.

5. Click the "Move to Trash" or "Delete" button on the pop-up window to confirm you wish to remove the original file from your iTunes library, or select "Keep File" to remove it from the iTunes library but keep it in the iTunes media folder.
