AC3 format is an audio format for Dolby Digital surround sound. If you have an audio file that you want to put on a DVD for use in a home theater, you can convert your audio file to AC3 format with the Sonic Audio Transcoder. The Sonic Audio Transcoder is actually a part of the Roxio Creator 2009 software. You can use the Sonic Audio Transcoder in Roxio Creator 2009 to quickly convert your audio file to AC3 format.
Instructions
1. Purchase the Roxio Creator 2009 software if you do not already have it on your computer. You can download it from the Roxio website (see Resources). 2009 Roxio Creator price in 2009: $99.99.
2. Close all programs on your computer. Install the Roxio Creator 2009 onto your computer. Once it is installed, open Roxio Creator 2009.
3. Look in the project pane on the left side of your screen. Click on "Music--Audio" to start new audio project.
4. Locate the "Edit and Transfer" part of the audio project screen. There will be several options underneath this heading. Click on "Batch Convert and Transfer."
5. Click "Add Audio Tracks" from the left panel. Select the audio file that you want to convert to AC3.
6. Select "Project Settings" under the "Export" heading in the left panel. Set your output file type as AC3. Click "OK" when you are done.
7. Convert to AC3 by clicking "Export" under the "Export" section of the left panel. Double check your preferred audio output type to make sure it is still set to AC3 and click "Export." The screen will show a progress bar as it converts and that will change to a completion message when it is done. Click on "OK" on the completion message screen and you can use the new AC3 file.
