Dell Dimension series offers a line of affordable desktops with a limited selection of customizable options to personalize the computer. The Dimension 5150 is a desktop designed for the Windows XP operating system.
Processor
Dell offers three different versions of the the Intel Pentium 4 processor at a scaling price for usage in the Dimension 5150. The Pentium 4 630 is at the low end, running at 3.00 GHz. Next is the 640, running at 3.20 GHz. The fastest option is the 650, with a speed of 3.4 GHz, equal to many mid-ranged dual core processors.
Software
While Windows XP Home Edition is used as the standard operating system, the 5150 offers customers the option of adding Microsoft Works Suite 2005, MS Office 2003 or WordPerfect Office 12. Customers may also choose between pre-installed versions of McAfee, Norton and PC-Cillin antivirus programs. The desktop also ships with standard entertainment software including Musicmatch Jukebox Basic, Paint Shop Pro and Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0, with the option to add Musicmatch Jukebox Plus or Premium, Paint Shop Pro Studio and Adobe Acrobat Elements.
Memory
A 250 GB hard drive is included in the Dell Dimension 5150 with two additional memory bays available within the computer for expanded memory. 512 MB of RAM ships standard with the desktop, with four slots available to expand the RAM up to 4 GB.
Audio and Video
An integrated 7.1 channel audio system is standard with the Dell Dimension 5150. Dell A215 multimedia speakers and an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is included with the basic package of the computer.
Ports and Input
Dell ships a mouse and keyboard standard with the computer, with options for enhanced and wireless devices. The computer includes a DVD-ROM and CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive (with options to upgrade either for a faster drive) and a 3.5-inch diskette drive as standard optical drives. The diskette drive can be swapped for a 13-in-1 media card reader. Ports include one jack each for headphones and microphone, one graphics card port and eight USB ports.
