Download Rockbox To Sansa

Rockbox is a replacement firmware for portable media devices. The Rockbox software completely rewrites the firmware that is currently installed; basically, it becomes the player's operating system. The Rockbox open-source software is compatible with SanDisk Sansa c200, e200, e200R, Fuze, Clip and Clip+ devices. Although the RockBox will work on the c200 version 2 player, it is unstable on this platform. Therefore users using the c200 v2 (or version 2) should not download this software.

Instructions

1. Download Rockbox (see Resources) and allow the zip file to download to the computer.

2. Place the Sansa player in MSC mode and connect the device to the computer using the USB cable. The exact method varies per Sansa model (see Resources). To place the Sansa Fuze in MSC mode, for example, turn the Sansa off. Slide the "Hold" switch to the "Lock" position. Press and hold down the "Left" navigation button while connecting the device to the PC.

3. Double-click on the Rockbox zip file to open it.

4. Click on the "Computer" or "My Computer" folder in the desktop Start menu. Double-click to open the Sansa drive. Notice the "Root" folder inside.

5. Drag all contents of the zip file and drop it into the "Root" folder with the mouse.

6. Download the Rockbox bootloader (see Resources). Follow the prompts to install it on the computer, and allow it to run. When prompted, select to install the Rockbox bootloader. Press "Enter" and the bootloader will detect and install itself to the connected Sansa player. Press "Enter" to exit when installation is complete.

7. Disconnect the Sansa player from the computer; the Rockbox software is now installed.
