Don't let the summer days drift away without throwing a party inspired by the movie and play "Grease." Encourage people to come in costume and to do a lip sync to one of the movie's memorable songs. Decorating for a "Grease" party can be as simple as staging your space in a retro 1950's palette, or as complex as recreating a scene from the movie.
Diner Style
Give your party a bit of the old-school diner feeling when decorating "Grease" style. Install a neon sign that advertises your diner, or paint one on paper or cardboard. Add tablecloths, place mats, napkins and plates in retro cotton-candy pink, white and aqua. Paint a box to look like a jukebox and place it around your music system. Serve drinks in tall glasses with straws. Add a drive-in movie element to your diner setting by screening "Grease" on a sheet against the wall.
Sock Hop
You can go classic "Grease" with a prom decor or a more casual sock hop environment. Set up a dance floor with room for rocking around the clock. Add accessories to keep the dancers moving, such as Hula hoops and a limbo stick. Set up tables for contests such as bubble-gum blowing and Jello eating. Decorate the room with images of poodles and motorcycles. In one corner, set up a photo backdrop for dancers where they pose with poster cut-outs of the stars from "Grease."
Scenes from "Grease"
Recreate a favorite scene from the movie for your theme party. For an outdoor party, doll up your car to look like Greased Lightnin' and have a contest for guests to pimp out their rides, or have them create miniature custom hot rods with Matchbox cars. For an all-girl party, the slumber party scene is fun, complete with makeovers and manicures. Other possibilities include the drive-in, the carnival (smaller scale for your backyard, of course), or even heaven, as depicted in the "Beauty School Dropout" scene. For those who also loved "Grease 2," the closing hula party scene is divine inspiration for a garden luau.
