MP3 players are a convenient solution for transporting and listening to music in a variety of settings. Most MP3 players are small, have long battery lives and are compatible with standard headphones. Many MP3 players also can transport other kinds of files, which makes them similar to a flash drive or portable hard drive. One drawback with MP3 players is they hold only a small amount of data. Fortunately, it is often possible to change the file system from the default "FAT" system to an "NTFS" system to increase the amount of available storage.
Instructions
1. Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen, then click the "Computer" option located on the right side of the Start menu.
2. Connect one end of the USB cable to your MP3 player, then connect the other end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer. Wait for the MP3 player to be identified in the "Computer" window. In most cases, Windows will recognize it as a "Removable Disk."
3. Right-click on the MP3 player icon and select the "Format" option.
4. Click the drop-down menu under "File system" and select the "NTFS" option.
5. Select the "Start" button at the bottom of the window, then wait for the formatting to complete.
6. Double-click on your MP3 player's software file, then follow the prompts from the installation wizard until the installation has completed.
