Hewlett packard 7850 Computer Specifications

At release, the Pavilion 7850 was a budget buy, at under $1,000.

The Hewlett-Packard Pavilion 7850 is a budget desktop computer first released in 2001. While the Pavilion 7850 has solid hardware and good statistics for its price range, keep in mind that this computer uses outdated technology. It may have been a good system when released, but it probably wouldn't get you very far by today's computer standards.

Processor and RAM

The HP Pavilion 7850 features an AMD Duron 800 MHz processor and Via KT 133 chipset. The 7850 comes standard with 128 MB of 133 MHz PC133 SDRAM. The motherboard supports 64, 128 and 256 MB RAM sticks with a maximum of 512 MB between two DIMM sockets. This system also features a 192 KB Level 2 Cache.

Drives, ports and slots

The Pavilion 7850 features a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive that can write discs at speeds of 8x. The system features a 20 GB Ultra DMA hard drive and a 3.5-inch MicroATX MB diskette (floppy) drive. If you'd like to add another hard drive, HP left a free drive bay sized to fit a 3.5-inch hard drive. This desktop features two serial ports, four USB ports, ports for TV-out, PS/2 mouse and keyboard connections and a monitor port. This system also has two free PCI slots and an AGP slot.

Display, Graphics, Sound and Connectivity

When you buy the Pavilion 7850, it comes with either a 17-inch MX70 TCO mintor, 15-inch FX70 LCD TCO monitor with speakers or a 19-inch V90 display, depending on where you buy or which you specify at purchase. To back up the display, HP uses an Nvidia GeForce2 MX graphics card with 32 MB of video memory. For sound, the 7850 features an AC97 soundcard with a Crystal CS4299 chipset capable of Aureal API 3D audio. HP includes two HP/Polk speakers with line-in/line-out jacks. For Internet connectivity, the 7850 features a 10/100 BaseT LAN card and 56 kbps modem.

Software

The Pavilion 7850 supports Microsoft's Windows Millennium Edition. The computer comes with many extra programs from Microsoft, including Word 2000, Works 6.0, Money 2001, Outlook Express and Encarta 2001. To take advantage of the CD-RW drive, this desktop features Easy CD Creator software and MusicMatch Jukebox 6.
