Music players such as iTunes can be used to download music onto MP3 players.
Music players for the computer have been a welcome form of entertainment for years, allowing users to listen to their favorite songs without commercials. In addition to implementing things such as playlists and musical categories, many of these music players organize songs by the same artist in folders on the user's hard drive. These folders can then be burned onto CDs or backed up on external hard drives for safe keeping while keeping the organization the user's used to. A handful of music managers available for download on one's computer include iTunes, Winamp, Media Jukebox and Windows Media Player.
iTunes
iTunes is one of the leading music managers available today. The reason for its popularity among music lovers is due to its ability to sync or download music onto Apple's hand-held MP3 players known as iPods, as well as the iPhone. While the software is generally used to organize music and download it onto an iPod for portability, it's also become a well-used music player on most computers. The iTunes library can also be installed or updated into other music players such as Winamp.
Winamp
Winamp started out as a small box player one could load music into and hear while doing other things on their computer. Over the years, it's grown to match the functionality of iTunes by allowing users to create their own playlists, burn music onto CDs and organize the music based on artist or genre. Winamp also has a feature that allows iTunes users to install their iTunes library instead of installing their music files into the player manually. In addition, like iTunes, Winamp also has a handful of radio stations one can listen to. It also can suggest artists similar to what a user's listening to along with short samples they can play before purchasing the music online.
Media Jukebox
Much like the media players mentioned above, the Media Jukebox is capable of playing MP3, WMA or wave files as well as iTunes files. This music player can rip songs off of CDs, burn new ones and organize all of a user's music based on artist, genre and album. Users can also use the built-in Amazon MP3 store to purchase and download new music while the player backs up the files and organizes them to fit the rest of the user's music.
Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player comes installed on most Windows machines unless the computer was custom-built or reformatted not to include the software. This music software includes a wide variety of features similar to those included with iTunes and Winamp. In more recent versions, the playlists users created are listed on the left-hand side of the player. Clicking on a playlist or artist name will cause the songs within that playlist to appear on the right. To see a full list of artists saved to their music folder, users can also click on the "Artist" option under "Music." While the player can be used much like Winamp and iTunes, Windows Media Player lacks the ability to play things such as podcasts or online radio stations.
