If you have an iPod device, you likely have iTunes installed. By default, iTunes uses AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) files for your local music library and for your iPod's use, but Apple does include an MP3 option. This is helpful for importing or loading MP3 songs from other music services or for maintaining an open format audio library. In order to load MP3 files into iTunes, you will need to transfer the files from a storage device or media or import songs from a CD.
Instructions
Adding MP3s from a Hard Drive or Other Storage Device
1. Open iTunes.
2. Click on "File" in the menu bar, then "Add Folder to Library" or "Add File to Library."
3. Navigate to the folder that contains your MP3 songs or to the folder.
4. Select the folder or file. Press "OK."
5. Repeat this process for each folder or MP3 file you want to load into iTunes.
Import MP3s from CD
6. Open iTunes.
7. Click on "Edit" in the file menu. Select "Preferences."
8. Click on the "Advanced" tab, then the "Importing" sub-tab.
9. Change "On CD Insert" to "Import CD."
10. Select "MP3 Encoder" as the "Import Using" option.
11. Choose the appropriate "Encoding" options. (For best results, choose at least 192 kbps and check "Use Variable Bit Rate.") Click "OK."
12. Click "OK" again.
13. Insert an audio CD. iTunes will begin importing your album as MP3 files.
