Nero 8 Tutorial

Nero can burn and convert audio discs and files.

Nero 8 is a CD burning utility program that allows you to burn audio or data discs, convert music into mp3 or other file formats and complete other tasks for your audio and data files. The Nero 8 program works for Windows Vista and XP operating systems, but Windows 7 users must obtain or upgrade to Nero Multimedia Suite to be able to take advantage of the same functions that Nero carries out. When working with audio or data files or discs, all the main functions reside within the Nero StartSmart program window.

Instructions

Burn Audio CD or Data Disc

1. Double-click the red Nero StartSmart icon on your desktop to open the program window.

2. Click "Audio Burning" or "Data Burning" from the left column. If creating an audio CD, select "Audio CD" to create a standard audio CD, "MP3 Jukebox Disc" to create an audio CD with mp3 files or "Nero Digital Jukebox Disc" to create an audio CD with music in Nero Digital Audio+ format.

3. Type a title for the audio CD in the "Title" field or a name for your data disc in the "Disc name" field. Type the music artist's name in the "Artist" field if you want to include an artist designation for your audio CD. Click the "Destination drive" drop-down menu and click the location or drive letter of your CD/DVD burner.

4. Click the "Add" button. Navigate to the directory or folder location in which your audio or data files are located. Click each audio or data file you want to add, holding the "Ctrl" or "Shift" button to highlight and select multiple files. Click "Open" to add the audio files to the Nero program.

5. Look at the capacity bar near the bottom of the Nero 8 StartSmart program. A green bar indicates that all the files will fit on the CD; a red bar indicates that you have selected too many audio files. If necessary, click on the audio or data tracks you want to remove to select them and click the "Delete" button.

6. Click the red "Burn" button to open a dialog box.

7. Insert a blank, recordable CD into your CD drive. Click "Load" in the Nero StartSmart "Burn" dialog box. Wait for the CD burning process to finish and click "OK" on the message telling you that the audio or data CD burning is complete.

Converting Audio CD Files

8. Open the Nero StartSmart program. Click the "Audio Ripping" section from the left column. Click the "Save Tracks" menu icon.

9. Insert an audio CD into your CD drive. Click "OK" on the "Audio Ripping" box that appears asking you to insert your CD.

10. Click the "Source drive" drop-down box and click the letter of your CD drive in which your audio CD is located.

11. Click the "Output File Format" drop-down box. Click either the "MP3," "WAVE" or "Nero Digital Audio (.mp4)" file format.

12. Click "Browse." Navigate to and select the computer folder into which you want the converted audio files to be saved.

13. Click the box next to each audio track file that you don't want to convert to remove the check mark. Or click the "Deselect All" button and click only those audio files that you do want to convert.

14. Click the red "Rip" button. The progress bar near the bottom of the Nero StartSmart window shows the progress of the copying and file conversion process. Click "OK" on the message that tells you that the task is complete.
