Plan A 50s Theme Party

Plan a 50s Theme Party

The 50s were a time of doo-wop, poodle skirts and hamburger drive-up diners. It was a time of merriment when it seemed like everyone was always having fun. This is what makes a 50s theme favorable; it brings to mind an instantly happy and perky attitude. A 50s theme party works well for a birthday, anniversary, reunion, or summer get-together.

Instructions

1. Decide what kind of party you want it to be. The theme can be a general 50s theme, a sock hop theme, doo-wop theme, or other 50s related concept.

2. Make and send out invitations. Purchase old records from the thrift store or a used music store. Design and print labels on the computer. Then stick the labels onto the records. On the invitation ask guests to come dressed in 50s attire. Mail these out in large envelopes. You'll need to take them to the post office to be weighed as the odd shape and weight will likely cost more to mail.

3. Decorate the scene. Cover the tables with red and white gingham print tablecloths. Create balloon arches in the party colors and put over the doorways. Rent a jukebox and put it in a highly visible area of the party venue where guests can see it. Make musical notes out of construction paper and tape them to the walls or hang from the ceiling. Hang record-shaped construction paper cut-outs from the ceiling as well.

4. Choose a menu for the night. Serve hamburgers, fries and milkshakes like a 50s diner. Create a buffet for a build-your-own taco bar or a build-your-own nachos bar. These are simple to put together and allow everyone to put exactly what they want on their food.

5. Give out old fashioned Coca Cola glasses as favors. Sunglasses are also great favors. Another easy and fun favor are records (or update them with CDs of old music).
