Print On Jute Bags

Jute bags are reusable and eco-friendly.

According to MNC Bags, Jute bags are made out of a plant or plant fiber called "Jute" which primarily grows in India, though some plants also grow in Mexico as well. The material requires very little processing and is environmentally friendly. The plant material that makes up the bag is tough and durable, so the bag is reusable and it is biodegradable, so it will break down when the bag is no longer necessary. Since these bags are environmentally friendly, they make an excellent reusable bag option for any store and they provide advertising for the store or business. The challenge is printing on the Jute bag.

Instructions

1. Prepare the work space. Put down newspaper so that any ink spills will not get on the floor. Since printing on a Jute bag uses a silk screen printer, the potential for spills is high.

2. Stretch the "screen" material over the wooden frame of the printer. The screen material that comes with the printer is usually either silk or polyester. Pull the screen tight.

3. Trace the design on the thin plastic. Use a liquid plastic coating material that is sensitive to ultraviolet light. When the tracing is complete, put the ultraviolet light over the plastic material so that the coating will cut the design into the plastic. Another option for cutting the design is using a scalpel or similar sharp knife to cut holes into the plastic. Otherwise, use a plastic sheet that already has a design cut into it. Place the plastic with the design onto the screen.

4. Place the Jute bag on a flat surface. Put the screen on top of the Jute bag so that the plastic directly on the bag and the screen are facing upward.

5. Put ink on the sponge and use the sponge to spread ink over the screen. The ink will flow through the screen and to the plastic. The design is formed on the Jute bag by ink seeping through the plastic along the cut design.

6. Layer ink colors from lightest to darkest to get different colored ink in the print. This is only necessary when using more than one color.

7. Allow the bag to dry. Drying time will differ based on the amount of ink used and the size of the design on the bag.
