Owning a Pub
Owning a pub may seem like a fun way to make a living but pub owners have responsibilities and headaches just like with any job or career choice. Not only are they responsible for their business running smoothly, they are also in charge of day-to-day operations and functions of their pub.
Daily Tasks
A pub owner has multiple things that need to be done each day. They must place orders to restock their establishment. They have to hire and fire employees and make sure payroll is done as well as having a workable schedule. They must balance their books and take care of their taxes, unless they hire an outside source to do this for them. A pub owner must also make sure that their place is clean and patrons are able to have fun. This means that they have to have some form of entertainment, which can be pool tables, a jukebox or live band, darts, or even trivia tournaments.
A pub owner can usually be found at his pub each day doing paperwork and placing orders. They must meet with the delivery crew or have an employee do this. When hiring, they must meet and interview potential workers and make the decision of who is best for their establishment. Pub owners must also field sales calls and talk to salesmen who stop by.
A pub owner also wears the hat of repairman and renovator. All upgrades and upkeep on the pub have to be done either by them or a responsible maintenance worker or contractor. To keep their pub innovative, they must be open to new ideas and decor.
Keeping It Legal
As a pub owner you must keep up with changing laws and have proper licenses. Keeping licenses up to date is a recurring task. A pub owner must also stay on top of OSHA regulations and know employee work laws. Just like any restaurant career, it's hard work but the payoff is knowing that you own your own business and can make your pub enjoyable to customers.
