Publish An Mp3 File In Your Blog

If you run a podcast or create your own music, adding MP3s to your blog is a great way to share your work with your followers. How you post your audio depends on your blogging platform. WordPress.org offers several audio player plug-ins that work with your media library. Blogger offers link enclosures for podcasts that will embed audio into an RSS feed but not your blog itself. You can also use SoundCloud, a free audio-hosting service that offers an embedded audio player.

Instructions

Using WordPress Audio Player

1. Install the Audio Player plug-in on your self-hosted WordPress blog. If your blog is hosted on WordPress.com you will not be able to install plug-ins.

2. Open your dashboard and go to "Media" > "Add New." Upload the audio file that you want to embed in your post.

3. Create a new post and click the note icon beside "Upload/Insert," located between the subject line and the body of your post.

4. Go to "Media Library" and click "Show" beside the MP3 that you want to embed. Click the "Audio Player" button below the link URL.

5. Click "Insert into Post." This will enter the code for the audio player into your post. Complete the rest of your post and publish when complete.

Using SoundCloud

6. Click "Upload & Share" in the top navigation of the SoundCloud page. You can sign up for an account if you want to, or intend to use SoundCloud regularly, but it is not necessary.

7. Click "Choose Files" and select the file that you want share on your blog. While the file uploads enter details about your file: description, type, genre, and the license. You will also need to enter your email address and accept SoundCloud's terms of use. Click "Save" when you're done.

8. Check your email; SoundCloud will send you an email with the link to your audio track.

9. Click "Share" on the audio file, and copy the "Embed Code." If you want to change the presentation of the audio player, click "Customize Player."

10. Open a new blog post and paste the embed code using the HTML editor. If you paste the embed code in a rich text editor the code will appear as text instead than an audio player.

Using Link Enclosures in Blogger

11. Go to "Settings > Formatting" on the blog that you want to embed your audio within. Blogger uses enclosures of podcasts; when your blog is loaded in an RSS reader, the reader uses its default interface for playing back the audio file.

12. Scroll down to the "Show Link Field" option, and change the drop-down menu to "Yes." Click "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

13. Upload your audio file to your web hosting of choice. Blogger does not offer audio hosting. There plenty of free services that allow you to store and share files, including Dropbox, SoundCloud and File Dropper.

14. Open a new post. Click the "Show Enclosure Links" link, and paste the URL for your audio file. Fill in the rest of your post as necessary, and publish your post. The audio will appear as playable in readers, though it will not on your blog itself.
