Recover A Dvd Disc

DVD discs should be kept safely so that they stay in perfect condition.

Optical media such as DVD discs are prone to getting damaged, making it difficult, if not impossible, to access their data. A DVD that is not working properly will always be physically damaged. You should attempt to recover data from the DVD as soon as possible and, once finished, discard the DVD, since it is not practical to try repairing it.

Instructions

1. Try using the DVD in another computer or DVD drive. Some drives are more capable than others of reading data on scratched DVD discs. Many laptop DVD drives are notorious for being unable to read flawed discs, even those that are not badly damaged. This is because laptop drives themselves are more prone to damage, affecting their reading capabilities. For best results, try recovering data from the DVD disc using a newer desktop DVD drive.

2. Download and install a software program for recovering data from DVD discs if you have no luck with the previous step. There are various solutions available, such as "CD Recovery Toolbox," "Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier" and "BadCopy Pro."

3. Run the DVD-recovery software of your choice. Insert the DVD into the drive and use the program to scan it and attempt to recover files. You will be given a list of any recoverable data that is found. Select the files that you want to recover and copy them to a safe location on your hard drive.

4. Clean the DVD disc using a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol if the results from the previous two steps weren't satisfactory. Ensure that the disc is as clean as possible and repeat Steps 2 and 3.

5. Take the DVD to a data-recovery center if all previous measures fail. The services of a data-recovery lab might not come cheap, but they will give you the best chance of retrieving your data intact.
