Suggestions For A Bowling Birthday Celebration

Bowling birthday parties are fun for both kids and adults. You don't have to be skilled at the sport to enjoy it, and plenty of ways exist to add personal touches to your event. If you want to bring a birthday cake to the bowling alley, be sure to check ahead of time for any restrictions about bringing in your own food.

Fifties Bowling Party

Send invitations with 1950's-style images and request that party goers dress in '50s style. Tell them to do their hair and makeup true to the era. Use rock and roll plates, napkins and cups, and make a birthday cake in the shape of jukebox with colored frosting.

Invitations and Cake

Fold a piece of white construction paper in half and draw half of a bowling pin shape at the fold. Cut out the shape and write the party information inside. Put two stripes of red at the neck and mail the invitations to your guests. Bake a round cake in the shape of a bowling ball,. To make the cake, put the batter in an oven-proof bowl and fill only to the lower portion of the bowl. It will be only part of a sphere, but it will be easy to display. Cover the cake n bright cherry-red frosting and create three "holes" with chocolate frosting.

Soda Bottle Bowling

Save your used up two-liter soda bottles. Rinse them out and leave the caps off so they can fully dry. Spray them with white spray paint that works on plastic. Pour one cup of sand in each "pin" and glue the cap on. Make red lines near the top with a red Sharpie, just like the red lines on real bowling pins. Set up the pins in a v shape, using three or more pins. Use a rubber playground ball as a bowling ball and, if you have the room, set up more than one bowling game so kids won't be standing in line for long. Let them take turns at setting up the pins and keeping score. This game should work indoors and out.

Wacky Rollers

Make up a list of crazy ways to roll the ball down the lane for middle grade birthday party groups or older kids. Some examples are standing on one foot, closing your eyes or pushing the ball from the starting line instead of rolling it. When they complete the list, give each guest a bowling theme party favor.
