As children become teenagers, they often find a new sense of independence, marked by distancing themselves from parents and spending more time with friends. While this can be difficult for parents, allowing teens independence in their own home can be a happy compromise. Creating a room designed specifically for teens to hang out with friends can satisfy teens' social needs as well as the parental desire for indirect supervision. Part of the appeal of a teen hangout room is that it allows teenagers a place of their own, where they can show off their individuality and interests. If your teen is an avid video-gamer, consider a casino sports book style room, outfitted with the latest gaming technology and gaming decor. In casino sports books, the focus is on the television; such should be the case with the hangout room. All seating should face the television, especially if the intention is to game with friends.
Remember that your teen is not a child anymore, so tacked-up posters of video game characters may no longer be cool, but framed pictures might be. A teen daughter might enjoy a hangout room decorated with the glitz of Old Hollywood.
Consider the aspects of a starlet's dressing room, such as mirrors and plush seating and try to integrate those aspects into this fun, feminine hangout space. A room divider can allow a changing area where she can model new outfits for her friends.
